Why no billboard textures?: My models use meshes for individual leaves and parts. Typically a billboard texture will be used to reduce poly count in leaf clusters. However, my models are not intended for games/VR but for closeups in raytracing such as Blender Cycles. I stumbled across an amazing concept of this bugbear by Jaemin Kim and thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to make a full character from a concept. I started by sculpting the whole body in ZBrush and then retopologized using the Zsphere tool. I then went on to unwrap him in 3ds Max, texture him in Substance Painter, finally using Maya to rig and do the simple breathing animation.
