As a part of my practice in texturing, I decided to create a scifi armor (a helm), designed by me, and this is my first time creating a scifi model. I used Maya for modeling, and Substance Painter 2 for baking and texturing everything (2k Texture maps), and marmoset toolbag for rendering. The creative process is as follows:
- a low poly model is made.
- a copy from the low poly is made and made high poly, via a subdivision modifier and a multi-res (not applied), which brings the mesh to over 10 million vertices. This is to ensure detail precision.
- Details are sculpted onto the high poly mesh
- Detail work is baked from high to low poly mesh

The model has been generated from a 3D scan of the real Helmet by using 100 photos.
The engravings on the upper part of the helmet have the same pattern of the ones shown on Philip’s armor in the famous painting, the helmet might have been part of that armor set. (Check the picture below)
The mesh shown here is the lowpoly version with baked Normal and Roughness maps from the highpoly one.
