Prompted by the lovely staff here at Sketchfab, I have decided to research a bit more about the pistol this model is based on, and boy was it a fun read! Fun Fact: It costs over 3000$ today The design dates from the 1860s, and is attributed to Louis Dolne. The gun was manufactured until the end of the 1800s. One of the rarest gambler/hide away/ personal defense deringers around. Incorporates a 6mm (22) rimfire revolver, “knuckles” that unfold to provide a grip for the revolver and a 2 1/2” folding dagger. Weapon is 4” long when folded. Expands to 8” when at full length. Marked “Dolne - 6mm” (L. Dolne - Imuur) on frame, folding trigger and exposed springs. Brushed finish, overall excellent. I challenged myself to design and model a robot, this dude took me almost a full year to come up with. I’m so bad when it comes to imagining robots and I’m even worse at hard surface modeling. Another challenge I put on myself was to try and not use ball joints, It felt like I was cheating if I used them in my design. One of the biggest lessons I learned from doing this project is that not everything is just not going to be perfect. I spent hours fixing miniscule things, trying to get the perfect alignment when in reality it literally didn’t matter as long it was good enough. The design itself was mainly inspired by Futurama Robots and Team Fortress 2 MVM robots. Anyways I’m happy with what I’ve created. Hard surface project I did from a concept of Sheng Lam. In this project, I tried to make the result to be as close as possible as the concept and the most realistic possible as well. For the parts that are not in the concept, I tried to match the general style of the whole with details that still are hard surface and color matching with the drawing. The walkman is 33k polys and the tapes are 17k polys (3 to 5k polys each) for a total of 55k polys. Please turn on the animation for city ambience! This took a long time to make! The hardest part was making it look fine on sketchfab. Also I’m submitting this to the January contest in February.... yeah. But it still fits the criteria! I imagined a more “Yakuza” games style level, where the same space acts as a hub world and a fighting arena. Also I took huge influence from Tokyo-to from jet set radio. Named Echo City, built on the pacific ocean by business congloramates to act as a city state and a tax haven. As it is a new nation all of the citizens are immigrants, so that explains the multilingual signs everywhere.
