The process consists of modelling a low poly version, from which a copy is made with a very high dense mesh where details are sculpted in, later baked onto its low poly counterpart.
This is arguably one of the first big challenges that I came across in my contributions to the mod, for one simple reason: as a beginner I still did not know how to have more than 1 texture in one single model. The creative process is as follows:
- a low poly model is made.
- a copy from the low poly is made and made high poly, via a subdivision modifier and a multi-res (not applied), which brings the mesh to over 10 million vertices. This is to ensure detail precision.
- Details are sculpted onto the high poly mesh
- Detail work is baked from high to low poly mesh
- Any colour work is done in texturepaint.
