I was realy impressed by the very realistic rendering, although most of the volume has been flattened. Another feature worth noting : its proportions take into account the fact that the viewer is on the ground, so that the upper part of the head is much larger than it should be , to compensate for the perspective. This is a technique that has been know for a long time, (used by Michelangelo), but it’s interesting to see how it applies here. The counter animation is geometry based, so it can be used dynamically and adressed by code. Complete with 4K PBR textures. My motivation for this piece came from rewatching the Aliens movies. I took this as an opportunity to learn Substance Painter and figure out how to bake maps for a more complex model like this. It’s also always interesting to learn a few things about design in general and about the object you’re researching in specific.
