The universal stage is certainly the most important of such devices, and for more than half a century it was considered essential for petrographic work. Two French inventors, brothers Alphonse and Theodore Carmagnolle of Marseille, France, were granted a patent for an armored diving dress in 1882 (Filed 1878). The 22 joints were made of partial sections of concentric spheres formed to create a close fit.

Magic gyroscope with celtic inspiration. Made and animated in 3DsMax with textures made in Substance.
The FBX comes with a seamless loop of the bronze ring and the little obsidian sphere both rotating around the big one which is rotating too. I named this object a magic gyroscope as the overall artefact reminds the design of those objects yet the movements are made to remind those of stars and planets.
Both spheres are pierced on top and bottom so the model only uses 4 sides polygons.
I think the object would fit nicely into a fantastic story, as lore or decoration.

This project is roughly 4 weeks in the making and is by far the most fun I’ve been with modeling a character. I modeled this in Zbrush and modeled the props and weapons in Maya. First full creature sculpt in a while, sculpted fully in zBrush starting with zSpheres to practice the full pipeline.
Sculpted the Primary and Secondary Shapes in zBrush before retopoed and UV’ed in Maya before returning to zBrush for projection and further sculpting into the secondary and tertiary shapes.
