Since they’re based on Walruses I came up with the Milk Delivery Sledge for transporting their milk across the icy places of Northrend and the Dragon Isles. I tried to make everything fit in with the Tuskarr aesthetic and had a lot of fun with it. This little bird nursery was a project to further push my understanding and skills of the handpainted game art pipeline, from concept to having a finished model. In this case, I also wanted to explore how to blend different terrain textures into each other, and how to generate grass with a particle system instead of placing them all by hand like in my previous props. I’m happy it worked the way it did! In order to get this on Sketchfab I even got some additional practice: Baking said ground textures onto the ground plane, and converting my grass particles into actual geometry. Merging those then ended up making my file twice the size - but “compressing” it brought it down again. Lots of mini-roadblocks, but here it is! A personal project I started in September that got pushed back due to university work. After finishing the game I knew I had to make something for my portfolio to show praise as I am one of the few people with the controversial opinion that the game is a masterpiece, ultimately becoming my favourite game I’ve ever played. I’m a huge fan of Joel and Ellie and I was very invested in the continuation of their story. I chose to model the guitar that Joel gives to Ellie as I felt that it was a physical embodiment of their relationship which is my favorite thing about the games. It’s also different to a lot of my other portfolio pieces as I tend to model weapons. I found this piece quite challenging as the sunburst pattern on the body of the guitar took some time to get right as I had not done too much hand painted texturing within Substance Painter but I am very happy with the results. After modelling an environment for my last project, I decided to focus on props this time. I pushed my modelling skills by attempting different spear designs, incorporating shapes that went beyond the typical box-shape. Spear B (middle) was especially challenging given its organic nature, so it was an opportunity to practice sculpting in ZBrush. This is my scene for the Howest DAE diorama assignment. Before starting my studies at DAE I went on a summer trip to Norway and found the nature there, and in particular the forests, to be very inspiring. I tried to capture some of that experience in the foliage and landscaping of the garden. My main goal for this scene was to make it feel like a believable whole while still keeping a strong overall composition. I really tried to push myself on this one so any feedback will always be appreciated. I did my best to convey the forest loner’s story of why he lives where he does. He may be an art thief but I didn’t want to commit any actual art theft myself, so the paintings are just some photographs, mostly from Norway.
