3D scan of a primeval dwarf horse (Eurohippus messelensis) fossil from Messel, which is todays Darmstadt, Germany. Fossils from this area are extraordinarily good preserved. That is because 47 million years ago there was a tropical forest around Lake Messel, and on its floor the oxygen-deprived environment prevented decomposition of the corpses that sunk into the lake. This primeval dwarf horse of Messel is Number 28 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 9 in Showcase 68 at the NHM Vienna. Old wooden cart from Georgia. In the Caucasus, such carts are called arba (araba in turkish-speaking countries). We found this arba while walking in Mtatsminda park in Tbilisi with @sv.stats who had noticed it. It was in the evening, so it got dark quickly and the shooting conditions were not very good but I decided to scan it anyway cause it was our last weekend in Tbilisi and there would have been no other opportunity.
Captured in november 2022.

Cooperation with our friends at G-3D-PrintThe front cover of the jetski was scanned using Artec Leo in 15 minutes (including chalc sraying, markers, etc.) and the post-process workflow took about 60 minutes in Artec Studio. The jetski belongs to the world champion György Kasza and his team. The purpose of the scan is to make a perfect fit bespoke fabricated composite cover, therefore some reverse engineering was necessary to get a native CAD data (step) to be able to machine the mold for the composite. For this, weve sed Quicksurface’s Autosurface option to get the nurbs surface based on the HQ mesh. These birds were bagged by Crown Prince Rudolf on the 22nd of January 1889, only nine days before he committed suicide in Mayerling, Austria. The nest of the white-tailed eagles called eyrie can be as tall as four meters and is often used for many years.
The white-tailed eagle pair with a fledgling at the center is Number 74 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 29 of the NHM Vienna.

3D scan of a Eastern moa (Emeus crassus) skeleton from the Pleistocene. Moas are extinct birds that lived on New Zealand. This skeleton was gifted to the museum by Dr. Julius Ritter von Haast.
This specific skeleton is housed backstage, but complete skeletons of both a giant moa (Dinornis maximus) and another Eastern moa are number 77 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 30 of the NHM Vienna. Three more skeletons of different moa species (Dinornis struthioides, Dinornis elephantopus and Dinornis gravis) are displayed in the Ice Age (Eiszeit) corridor.

This ammonite was found in Ambatolafia within the Mahajanga Basin in the northwest of Madagascar. Take a look at a 3D scan of a big block full of fossilized ammonites from the same location here.
This fossil cannot be found in the exhibition of the NHM Vienna. Some other beautiful specimens of this kind can be found in Hall 8 of the NHM Vienna.
