This project feels like the reimaging of two separate projects I’ve done in the past. Mountain top castle, and lighthouse island. Both projects that at the time I was pleased with, but looking back on I felt weren’t my best.
I liked their premises a lot so I went ahead and merged the two together. Thus Castle Island was born!
Now for this scene, I did something I don’t often do when It comes to modelling scenes. I purchased pre-existing work. I know! Crazy, but I was having a strange amount of trouble modelling grass, I couldn’t get anything that looked “grass” you know?
I found an awesome little collection pack of low poly natural and organic models. Something I do tend to struggle with making so I was in awe that I found something that fit my style and could be a great leg up in terms of things I struggle with. Definitely going to see if I can leverage these assets in the future. A multi-faced sundial in the churchyard of St Marys Church, Elmley Castle, Worcestershire, UK.
This sundial (one of two at this location) is thought to date back to the mid 16th century, it is both a fine example and one of the earliest survivors of its type. The sundial is carved from limestone. There have been various restorations, the most recent was in 1971 when the gnomons were replaced. On the north side is carved the coat of arms of the Savage family.
