I had the privilege to work with the super chill and talented teammate, Gabriel Eekenulv, Skyblivion’s Concept Art Lead. Together we produced this grand and regal set of armor. As a historical arms and armor enthusiast, I often time find it difficult to work with many fantasy concept arts. Most designs sacrifice basic understanding and practicality for “cool” aesthetics which make no sense. When I came across Eekenulv’s armor designs, however, I was in awe. His designs are grand, elegant, and “cool”, yet they maintain insights and functionality of armors, a perfect balance between “Realism” and “Suspension of Disbelieve”.
This was one of the most fun project I’ve produced in collaboration with others. Not to mention my Twitch subscribers who took part in submitting poleaxe designs, which eventually developed into the one you see. A concept that occured to me real suddenly one day, that i could vaguely see in my mind and I fleshed out as I went along while trying to preserve spider, bird and harpy traits or something. Thats where “weaver” came from, to refer to the weaving of webs. But if I knew vfx and stuff alike i wouldve iuncluded some kind of web shooting animation. Also found out sometime aftwerwards that a weaver is also a real bird, but not too resembling in my opionion.
