This helmet, with its rather special appearance, is one of the few preserved objects that we know was owned by the Swedish king Gustav Vasa. It was made in Germany in 1540, probably in Augsburg or Nuremberg, which were home to some of the most skilled armour makers of the time. The visor, the part that covers the face, did not originally belong to the helmet, but it is thought to be of the same period. A helmet of this type was made not for battle but for celebratory occasions. In the 16th century, full suits of steel armour were the height of fashion. For parades and other royal festivities, the social elite would dress up in specially-made sets of costume armour with a close helmet. During these celebrations it became popular, in the early 16th century, to wear close helmets with grotesque visors in the form of animal or human faces, like this one, to enhance the festive atmosphere and heighten the sense of theatricality. In this study I tried to make an armor based on the character Kael from Wow, it was my first more complex model in handpainted painting, I really liked the process, and I hope you like the result.
Kael’thas “Kael” Sunstrider was the Prince of Quel’Thalas, the last of the House of Sunstrider, as well as a senior member of the Kirin Tor. After the fall of Quel’Thalas, Kael’thas led what remained of his people, the sin’dorei, in the service of the Alliance. Striving to placate his people’s addiction to magic, he later covertly allied with Illidan Stormrage, but betrayed him to the Burning Legion when its master, the demon lord Kil’jaeden, enticed Kael with the promise of salvation for the blood elves.

Unlike my mass-produced Ancient Khajiit armor, this badboy is an end-game, high-tier armor set, made with the mightiest metal, worked by the best blacksmiths, to be worn by the nobility of Roscrea. Although our modern interpretation of the Vikings claims that they were no pretty boys, my study of Vendel period art says otherwise. With that knowledge, I took certain liberties to gild certain part of the armor in gold and added some more intricate engravings. The harquebusier was the most common form of cavalry found throughout Western Europe during the early to mid-17th century. Early harquebusiers were characterised by the use of a type of carbine called a “harquebus”. In England, harquebusier was the technical name for this type of cavalry, though in everyday usage they were usually simply called ‘cavalry’ or ‘horse’. In Germany they were often termed Ringerpferd, or sometimes Reiter, in Sweden they were called lätta ryttare.
The armour comprises a Pot Helmet with two-piece skull joined by a low-comb, neck-guard (Lobster tail) of simulated lames and pointed peak or visor with three-bar guard hinged at each side to allow it to be raised when not needed. At each side are the cheek pieces for protection, hinged by means of leather strips.
