Silver, stamped, ribbon arm-ring which has been hacked in half, flattened and used as bullion. This object forms part of the Galloway Hoard, the richest collection of rare and unique Viking-age objects ever found in Britain or Ireland. Buried around AD 900, the Galloway Hoard contains over 100 diverse objects, from silver, gold and jewelled treasures to rarely surviving textiles, including wool, linen and Scotland’s earliest examples of silk. The Skuldelev ships are a group of five well preserved 11th century ships from the Viking period, found in the Roskilde Fjord in Denmark near the town of Skuldelev. Skuldelev 1 was a large ocean going ship, a trading vessel probably known as a Knarr. From analyzing the wood of the ship archaeologists were able to determine the ship had been built on the west coast of Norway around the 1030’s CE, and so ended it’s life far from where it was built. At some point in its life it had suffered massive damage which left it with a warped keel, and which necessitated significant reconstruction of the hull. This digital recreation is based on the ‘Ottar’, a full scale reconstruction made by the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum. The provision of a tent over the hold is hypothetical.

Super excited to share this Silver hand themed chest I’ve been working on over the past 8 weeks in Jordan Powers’ Aeon Core - Brushforge class!
Many thanks to Jordan for his awesome and thorough feedback during the whole class and all of my classmates who’ve all done a stellar job on their projects!
My main goal for this was to capure the World of Warcraft classic paladin aesthetic but base it mostly on the Knights of the Silver Hand themes and emblems. I also wanted to push my rendering skills with Jordan’s help and chose a decent number of materials to render. Although I didn’t get to do any organics (or wood) I still feel like my rendering skills have massively improved and am looking forward to future projects!
