This is one of those projects in mind long time ago wich finally sees the light. But at last, my beloved Pirate is done.
I really love pirate´s stories since I was a kid. Reading a lot about that piece of history, I learned that sometimes is more interesting the real version than the romantic side of it.
In this case, my inspiration waved between the fictional character Sophia of A Plage Tale Requiem, (and her absolutely amazing dismissed concept arts) and the impressive Grace O’Malley (a fiery red headed Irish woman born in Ireland in 1530) who was known as a pirate and a trader that even got to meet Queen Elizabeth I.
Of course, Mary Reed, Anne Bonny, Elaine Marley and Felicia Moreno were also very important for the creative process <3

This was modeled and UVed in Modo. It is a pure polygon model (not SubD), and only vertex smoothing was used. The textures were created using Substance Designer and are entirely procedural.
The included .sbsar file includes the ability to alter nearly all of the text, the colors, and the level of wear and tear. If you’d prefer to use texture maps, the .sbsar file can be opened and customized using the free Substance Player app, and the texture maps exported.

M24 Stick Grenade 3D Model.

Originally a much simpler asset, I began creating this model in Blender as a simple exercise before deciding to take the project further by improving the geometry, texturing and overall design of the asset. This included adding barbwire which initially was easy to make, but became extremely tedious when implementing changes and so I created a custom generator tool to improve iteration time and with considerably more accuracy. This was then baked in Marmoset and later textured in Substance Painter, using two materials with 4K texture sheet (using overlapping UVs to maximise quality) and a non-destructive workflow for fast iteration, then finally rendered in Marmoset Toolbag 3. This was done over the course of 9 weeks during the CGMA course: Stylized Character Arts for Games with instructor Weston Reid! The character blockout and sculpt were done in ZBrush, retopology in Blender and CozyBlanket, baking in Marmoset Toolbag 4, texturing in Substance Painter and 3DCoat, and finally rigged and animated back in Blender!
