This asset was the result of a single week long art test to examine our capabilities before continuing with the scope of our final major projects. I specifically was tasked with producing a portable construction light to a finished, game ready, quality; following a ‘high-to-low’ poly workflow that featured baking and PBR texturing, ready for importing into Unreal Engine. I am pleased to say I was given immediate approval and my asset featured extremely minimal critique.

M24 Stick Grenade 3D Model.

Originally a much simpler asset, I began creating this model in Blender as a simple exercise before deciding to take the project further by improving the geometry, texturing and overall design of the asset. This included adding barbwire which initially was easy to make, but became extremely tedious when implementing changes and so I created a custom generator tool to improve iteration time and with considerably more accuracy. This was then baked in Marmoset and later textured in Substance Painter, using two materials with 4K texture sheet (using overlapping UVs to maximise quality) and a non-destructive workflow for fast iteration, then finally rendered in Marmoset Toolbag 3. I started creating the piece shortly after watching The Last of Us series. I Sculpted the bust in ZBrush, Retopologised and UV’d within Blender, textured him in Substance Painter and rendered the bust using Toolbag 4. I created the bust to demonstrate organic texturing inside of Substance Painter for WCG students and shared the files to allow them to practice the techniques for themselves.
