My submission for the first Low Poly challenge of 2021! The combined lighthouse and windmill provides the Lighthouse Keeper with an excellent view of the surrounding reef, unfortunately it lighthouse no longer works as intended, meaning there have been a few… mishaps over the years. Though we are assured that it certainly wasn't the Keeper's intention! The crows nest provides a convenient way to cut across to get those fresh seagull eggs in the morning, and the diving platform provides a nice way to keep entertained through those hot summer days. There's plenty to do and see - a fishing platform, covered to keep you protected from the midday sun, the odd wreck and legend has it there's a treasure chest that's been pulled on shore! Process: 1 layer, 1 brush (mostly) and a lot of colour picking. This project really helped to teach me how to loosen up when painting
as well as how to choose good colours. I tried to stay as close as possible to the original concept, but I did deviate when
I found interesting shapes during the painting process and wanted to keep them. No AO bake or base, just started
really messy to capture all the hue variations and then slowly sculpted in the shapes :)

This is another personal project I completed as part of a series of environment pieces I’ve been aiming to interconnect in a game engine. I wanted to focus on modular asset development to prep for larger projects in the future. I also got to try out some excellent terrain brushes that I recently purchased for ZBrush. I went for an aged Lighthouse as it appealed more to my style/sensibilities (clean is boring). Made this floating island with a lighthouse in 5 days trying to be done by the end of the week. And I gotta say, this was a marathon. Were a lot of troubles with baking, making fine details. If I had more time I would probably did separate bakes, but not this time. So, about the model: it’s a handpainted lowpoly with baked map from a highpoly. Triangles count: 27,5K. I was going with anime style (Miyazaki movies) and for reference I used artworks of Jim Shore (“Benatrex - Shorelights”), you’ll notice the lighthouse that I recreated.
