This project feels like the reimaging of two separate projects I’ve done in the past. Mountain top castle, and lighthouse island. Both projects that at the time I was pleased with, but looking back on I felt weren’t my best.
I liked their premises a lot so I went ahead and merged the two together. Thus Castle Island was born!
Now for this scene, I did something I don’t often do when It comes to modelling scenes. I purchased pre-existing work. I know! Crazy, but I was having a strange amount of trouble modelling grass, I couldn’t get anything that looked “grass” you know?
I found an awesome little collection pack of low poly natural and organic models. Something I do tend to struggle with making so I was in awe that I found something that fit my style and could be a great leg up in terms of things I struggle with. Definitely going to see if I can leverage these assets in the future. Fun stylized challenge. Low poly modeling with 3ds max and textured with substance painter. The idea is an island surrouned by an atoll with magical statues that act as wards… or whatever you want to think :D.
Free to download for anyone that wants to check it out. Primarily used AO and cavity maps to help give shading and hightlights. Most of the textures are 2048x2 and I tried to stay away from any small letter or symbols to reduce any resolution issues.
