Currently on museum display at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine, Florida, this piece originally was located above the ravelin structure - a smaller fortification that provided a first line of defense at the entrance of the fort. This Coat of Arms was removed in 1957 to conserve the piece, and has been on display allowing visitors to the National Park to see it up-close. Today, a replica has been placed where the original Coat of Arms was found. As part of our comprehensive 3D survey, we used structured light scanning and imaging to document both the replica and the original piece. Our data is being used for digital archival preservation, conservation, additional replica creation, and for 3D modeling and public engagement. Our Sketchfab design uses an historic image of the ravelin structure from 1895, showing the Coat of Arms as it was, before its removal. This is a laser scanned model of a historic replica coat of arms that is at the Castillo de San Marcos National Landmark in St. Augustine, Florida. The replica was scanned using a structured light instrument for purposes of making a mold casting of the piece to be used as part of a new wayside exhibit. The original coat of arms in the ravelin portion of the fort was removed in 1960, with this epoxy fiberglass model installed in its place to preserve the fragile stuccoed original.

These arms were optimized for Quest2 performance level. The texturing and unwrapping was done on one single texture, to prevent further draw calls for mobile VR systems. A wrist system has been added too. Was tested and works great with the free Unity addon VRarmsIK, which has till now the best ellbow correction system ever invented. And it’s free too. However, I tested these arms with this system and it was an amazing result. The arms are not connected to a “chest” bone, to be able to switch arms in runtime.
