Das Modell zeigt einen brekziierten Ammoniten aus einer Braunjurascholle der charakteristischen Bunten Brekzie. Durch den Einschlag des Ries-Asteroiden vor ca. 15 mio. Jahren wurde das etwa 170 mio. Jahre alte Meeresfossil zerrüttet und anschließend wieder zusammenzementiert. Die rote Färbung ist auf die Anreicherung von Eisen in den Braunjuraschichten zurückzuführen.

Terezin, the historical military fortress town, is most infamously the location of the Nazis’ Theresienstadt Ghetto. Since 1941 the ‘’Dresden Barracks’‘ was the place where women were placed, originally together with their children. Yet some of the rooms were used for theater and othercultural performances. On the barracks courtyard, the prisoners were permitted to play football (teams had 7 players), which made the location world famous.

Ornately carved sandstone stela from the Archaeological Park and Ruins of Quiriguá, an inscribed UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Department of Izabal, Guatemala. The piece was 3D laser scanned in 2019 during the extensive documentation survey at the site by our USF Libraries DHHC team. We utilized structured light scanners at various resolutions on this monument as well as imaging and longer range laser scanning to capture landscape context details.

Quirigua Stela K - 3D model shown in relation to c. 1909 image showing west (right) and east (left) sides. This photo was taken during fieldwork at the site by Edgar Hewett, Director of the School of American Archaeology in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This carved stone monument is from the Maya site of Quirigua, Department of Izabal, Guatemala (UNESCO World Heritage site). Working in collaboration with Guatemalan archaeologists and site management, our team of heritage and 3D specialists are recording thestela and carvings as well as terrain and site landscape details. Project attribution: Dirección General del Patrimonio Cultural y Natural del Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes, and the Quiriguá Archaeological Park and Ruins.
