La statuette repose sur un socle où apparaissent des motifs végétaux (herbes, cailloux).
Le sujet dénote, avec un léger décalage, le succès de la mode japonisante à la fin du 19e siècle.

Le pied droit en avant et le talon gauche soulevé indiquent que le personnage est représenté en mouvement. Il s’agirait d’une évocation d’un des épisodes les plus célèbres de la mythologie gréco-romaine : le quatrième des douze travaux d’Hercule.
