Here is a project i’ve really wanted to experiment. This is a parallax comics of the thief, Sly Cooper from the eponym Playstation’s games. It’s a quite short story, but i essentialy was focused on the render effect. It required a lot of sketches and scratches to imagine the ambiant, the lighting and the placement of different elements. I principaly used the baking of lights to render this effect of very contrasted black and white. Added a tiny outline to enhance the cartoon effect Hope you’ll like it. This project feels like the reimaging of two separate projects I’ve done in the past. Mountain top castle, and lighthouse island. Both projects that at the time I was pleased with, but looking back on I felt weren’t my best. I liked their premises a lot so I went ahead and merged the two together. Thus Castle Island was born! Now for this scene, I did something I don’t often do when It comes to modelling scenes. I purchased pre-existing work. I know! Crazy, but I was having a strange amount of trouble modelling grass, I couldn’t get anything that looked “grass” you know? I found an awesome little collection pack of low poly natural and organic models. Something I do tend to struggle with making so I was in awe that I found something that fit my style and could be a great leg up in terms of things I struggle with. Definitely going to see if I can leverage these assets in the future. This model of an African Bush Elephant is more than 4 years old. You can see the first version of it here: https://sketchfab.com/models/nbHrGAzBh1SktiN4DnpXFDykZcv At the time I was pleased with it, but I had trouble with the posture and I wasn’t that skilled yet to get the polygons to an acceptable level. The last week I have been working on it again, one of the advantages of working in digital 3d. I changed a lot of things in posture, sizes and shape, most of them subtle but more in line with what an African Elephant looks like. This version of the model is an intermediate sized model. I could go down to the lowest polygon version, but I think this is a good compromize between ease of use and actual details displayed. And as you can see I used the posibilities of the viewer to give it a look and feel that matches the grandeur of a great African elephant bul. P.S. The model has Dept of Field (DoF). Over the course of the summer I made quite some 3D hand painted props for Ashleigh Warner’s CGMA course: Creating Stylized Game Assets. This is the assignment for the first week, we had to create three cubes with all of them having an unique theme. The focus in this assignment was on creating a texture with two unique sides, focusing on painting. The cube on the left is a stool, the one in the middle a crate with carrots and the one on the far right is just a ‘tech’ box. This is a 3D scan of a cockroach I bought on etsy. It’s part of a larger project where I combined 3D modeled assets with photogrammetry (see http://whatswrongwithwhite.tumblr.com/image/177884973392 ). I used a lot of custom photo equipment (macro lens, polarization filters, extension tubes and a 3D printed cockroach holder from shapeways). For cleanup I used blender (cleaning up holes, chopping up into body parts, modeling deatils). For the final material design and export Substance Painter did a great job. This assignment was focussed on going through the whole pipeline (blockout - sculpting - retopology - UV Layout - texturing - presentation).
