I hand an idea of making a low tech astonaut that does not use laser weapons or similar, but goes around with a bat and a smug.
I’ve used the concept sketch that I found online to build the basemesh in max, sculpt in zbrush and retopo in max again.
Model is lowpoly, and the reason for the sculpt was to extract AO, Normal and Bent Normal maps from the sculpt in order to bake a detailed map of the highlights and shadows onto the retopo model.
I’ve used the green channel from bent normal to simulate highlights from the “above”.
After appying such map, it was much easier to hanpaint with 3dcoat and photoshop 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 27818 polygons.

Over the course of the summer I made quite some 3D hand painted props for Ashleigh Warner’s CGMA course: Creating Stylized Game Assets.
