7 years ago, I scanned this Nanotyrannus : https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/nanotyrannus-lancensis-young-t-rex-7b0967fa27674d959647868686b6717b . However, the model was far from perfect.
I figured I would scan it again for the Agisoft Nature Challenge.
This time, I managed to create a watertight model that should be 3D printable. I also set the number of polygons to 300k on purpose : half the weight of the original model, but with more details !
This is a cast of the real fossil of a Nanotyrannus Lancensis found in Gilmore, Montana, in the Hell Creek formation, in 1946. It is about 65 million years old. Scientists used to think Nanotyrannus Lancensis was a species distinct from the famous T-Rex, but recent discoveries tend to show that a nanotyrannus is actually a young T-Rex.
You might ask yourself why the skull is not symmetrical : this deformation occured during the fossilization process.

This was a two week project to build a steampunk railgun with working parts at a mid poly count instead of my usual low poly. I used an 1876 Winchester rifle as a base and built the magnetic acceleration components around it. The coils are powerd up by turning the rotating capacitor to full capacitance with the lever. This is an animation of an female Great Hammerhead Shark (Sphyrna mokarran) that was reconstructed from multiple cameras arranged around a dive in South Bimini, Bahamas in February 2020. Casey Sapp coordinated all videography. Kevin Davidson kindly contributed useful reference photos.
CG artist Jer Bot used the software Blender to align these camera views to reconstruct the accurate shape and color of Nemesis (PIT tag 900236000107365), which had an estimated length of 329 cm based on laser photogrammetry. Nemesis commonly frequents dive spots near Bimini and is well-known to divers and scientists from the Bimini shark lab (www.biminisharklab.com).
The ANGARI Foundation (www.angari.org) coordinated and supported this research, along with Sean Williams, Ken Morton, Jonathan and Jameson Bayuk, Annabelle Brooks, and Vital Heim.
