There was no normal mapping back then either… I had always loved this car, I still do. This project almost makes me want to remake this model a bit more hirez. The novel “Fantastic Voyage” was written by Isaac Asimov. The Proteus was designed by Harper Goff, who also created the Nautilus for the movie ‘20.000 Leagues Under the Sea’. A little remake of my previous project from 2003, the DJ5000. I wanted to see how far I’d come with the tools and my personal skills since then, and I think the results speak for themselves! Of course it helps that this is 44k triangles and utilizes several textures with the average size being 2048x2048, where the original from 2003 had only 445 triangles and a single 512x512 texture! So roughly this is about 100x more detailed than the original project! How far technology has come, and how far will it go further still. Real world scale.
