A sci-fi holographic computer I made that is loosely based off the IBM 5100. Originally created for Second Life, shown here in Metalness PBR. Textured in Quixel Suite and Photoshop, modeled in Blender with the HardOps plugin. The hologram is static for now, it normally has an animation (in other engines) but I am still trying to figure out a good way to have both a smooth interpolated rotation of the rings on the bottom and a hard transition of frames on the main screen (only way I can currently think of is to use the frame-by-frame method here but that would require way too much mesh data for smooth rotation). The project was developed by the Leningrad State Design Institute №5 in the 80s under the direction of B.E. Sandler for Krasnaya Zarya Plant. In view of the presence of weak soils, the type of foundation was of particular importance. Weight and wind load are transferred to the ground through a box-section foundation supported by 700 piles. The core of the building is the shafts of six elevators, and the structure itself is a reinforced concrete frame with external panels. The low-rise wings of the building are assembled from reinforced concrete columns and beams. The outer walls are finished with expanded clay concrete panels, into which the finishing material, Saarema dolomite, has already been installed at the factory. It started out as a low poly model but was never finished. To finally finish it I decided to add lots of new detail as well as completely re-texture it, adding additional maps that our game engine didn’t support at the time (like normal maps). It includes a fully modelled cockpit (which would have been interactive had the game ever been made), and a detailed rotary engine; both of which have their own set of texture maps so will be easy to reuse in other projects. Included in the optional download are all uncompressed texture maps in PNG format (diffuse, AO, roughness, metallic, and normal), as well as quadrangular and triangulated versions of the mesh. My entry for the “Fisherman” challenge on the WeeklyCGChallenge!! I came back to 3d after a long summer break with almost three months without any modeling. And it was a real blast to work on this and recover de hobby. The scene features the Andrea Gail, the fishing boat that was lost at the sea during the “Perfect Storm” on 1991. Also, a great chance to try the Screen Space Reflections on the water, which really add to the scene. Modeled with Blender, textured with Quixel Suite. A little remake of my previous project from 2003, the DJ5000. I wanted to see how far I’d come with the tools and my personal skills since then, and I think the results speak for themselves! Of course it helps that this is 44k triangles and utilizes several textures with the average size being 2048x2048, where the original from 2003 had only 445 triangles and a single 512x512 texture! So roughly this is about 100x more detailed than the original project! How far technology has come, and how far will it go further still. Real world scale.
