Sea Monkey was my entry to the Meet Mat 2 Substance Painting contest. I’m not sure what other sea monkeys you might know, but this one is the bravest of them all. I had a lot of fun texturing this exclusively in Substance Painter, as it was a great way to explore displacement + IRAY rendering. I also embraced the power of Painter’s anchor system, which made late revisions a breeze- I can’t work without them now. You step into the library, feeling the tremendous knowledge it possesses. You feel a presence of greater will, that inhabits this place. A soul, kind yet hostile to those unworthy. And as you turn to take a last glance at the overwhelming amount of tomes living in these ancient shelfs, there you see it, watching you… and it does welcome you.
It was such a great project to work on! It was tons of fun to work on a complex character and make it game ready! The task was really challenging since this is the first attempt at a complex character in stylized style but I really love how it turned out. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
