Locality: Ural Mts., Russia No.: 5847 Size: 4.8 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm Formula: Be3Al2(Si6O18) Description: This is a distinctive, green, doubly terminated emerald crystal from Urals, Russia. The crystal has good color saturation. Emerald, the green variety of Beryl, is the most famous and valuable green gemstone. Its beautiful green color, combined with durability and rarity, make it one of the most expensive gemstones. Deep green is the most desired color in Emeralds. In general the paler the color of an Emerald, the lesser its value. Emerald is a gemstone and a variety of the mineral Beryl colored green by trace amounts of chromium and sometimes vanadium. CMNH 7054, Dunkleosteus terrelli (Newberry, 1873) Age: Late Devonian (Famennian) Rock unit: Cleveland Shale Member, Ohio Formation Locality: Cuyahoga Co., OH Collectors: P. A. Bungart Date Collected: 23 Jun, 1938 358 million years ago, a shallow sea teeming with marine life covered Northeast Ohio. Dunkleosteus terrelli, the largest predator and one of the fiercest creatures alive in the Devonian “Age of Fishes,” ruled the waters. Up to 20 feet in length and weighing more than 1 ton, this fish was capable of chopping prehistoric sharks into chum! Dunkleosteus had a massive skull made of thick, bony plates, and 2 sets of fang-like protrusions near the front of powerful, self-sharpening jawbones. On November 18, 2020, the Ohio General Assembly passed a bill declaring Dunkleosteus terrelli the state fossil fish. 3D scan of a skull and mandible of the mosasaurid Platecarpus coryphaeus. He was an aquatic predator during the late Cretaceous, living about 81–85 million years ago. Mosasaurids are members of the order Squamata and are therefore relatives of lizards and snakes. Fossils of Platecarpus are found predominantly in North America, but were perhaps also occurring in Europe, Africa & New Zealand. This skull of Platecarpus coryphaeus will be on display in the upcoming exhibition “CineSaurs” that opens on October 19, 2021 at the NHM Vienna. Inventory number: NHMW-Geo 1911/0006/0026 Specimen: Platecarpus coryphaeus (Cope, 1872) Locality: Logan County, Kansas, USA Collection: Natural History Museum Vienna, Geology & Paleontology Dept., Vertebrate Coll. Locality: Elba Island, Italy No.: 5305 Size: 7.1 x 5.6 x 2.8 cm Formula: Fe2O3 Description: Hematite is an iron mineral crystallizing in the rhombohedral system; the most important ore of iron, it is dimorphous (i.e., describing two minerals that have the same chemical formula but are different in crystal structure) with Maghemite, occurs in black metallic-looking crystals, in reniform masses or fibrous aggregates, or in reddish earthy forms. Hematite is also known as bloodstone; red hematite; red iron ore; red ocher; or rhombohedral iron ore. Black crystals of Hematite may be confused with Ilmenite. Rainbow Hematite / Iridescent Hematite (Turgite) 3D Model. Download Rainbow Hematite / Iridescent Hematite (Turgite) in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
Locality: Elba Island, Italy No.: 5296 Size: 5.3 x 4.3 x 2.2 cm Formula: Fe2O3 Description: In modern usage ‘Turgite’ is often referred to as an iridescent ‘variety’ of either Hematite or Goethite (both are iron oxides). Usually, a thin film comprised of aluminum and phosphate was found to coat such Hematite. The thin films that range from tens to hundreds of nanometers thick are believed to cause the color. Hematite is an iron mineral crystallizing in the rhombohedral system; the most important ore of iron, it is dimorphous with Maghemite, occurs in black metallic-looking crystals, in reniform masses or fibrous aggregates, or in reddish earthy forms. Hematite is also known as bloodstone; red hematite; red iron ore; red ocher; or rhombohedral iron ore. It is also known as tagilite. Pseudomalachite is found in oxidized zones of copper deposits. This sample comes with radial fibrous and concentric inner structure, and reniform/botryoidal surface. The name Pseudomalachite comes from the Greek for “false” and “malachite”, because of its similarity in appearance to the carbonate mineral malachite. Diamond with round brilliant cut (flatter crown) 3D Model. Download Diamond with round brilliant cut (flatter crown) in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
Locality: - No.: - Size: - Formula: C Description: The name Diamond refers to its hardness (Greek - adamas, invincible) and has rank 10 on the Mohs scale. There is nothing comparable to it in hardness. Its cutting resistance is 4 times greater than that of Ruby and Sapphire, the gemstone next in hardness after Diamond. This allows one to cut diamonds with diamond and/or with diamond powder. Because of the perfect cleavage, care must be taken not to accidentally bang against an edge of a diamond, and also when setting it. His very strong luster sometimes enables the experienced eye to differentiate between a diamond and its imitations. Diamond is generally insensitive to chemical reactions. High temperatures, on the other hand, can induce etchings on the facets. Website: http://geology.uaic.ro/muzee/mineralogie/ Concept & 3D-modelling by dr.
