We were using Oculus (VR) and it was also going to be small in your field of view, so I knew I had to be efficient with my polygons. I used 3DS Max to start with, gathered a few hundred references… Here is the main source: https://www.parker-kaufman.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/shrimp-boat-jekyll-island.jpg Some of the things the Subject Matter Experts told me to do was to take off the netting, because there was no point… etc…, so I ended up adding little details for fun like the wash bucket and some tires on the sides to add flavor. Grime helps too, cause sea salt tends to just rust anything metal. For that most of the textures were from Quixel megascans that I had to paint a color-coded map, and then Photoshop out the artifacts and other nonsense. My submission for a past Sketchwars theme: redo a classic…
My thought is that something went astray with the Thunderbird between 1963 and 1967. My 3D sketch is a proposal for a different aesthetic bridge between the lovely 1963 body style and the somewhat radical departure of 1967. This took 4 hours to do, completely done in 3D while immersed in VR using Gravity Sketch. I had 2D reference pictures in the scene, but all the ideation of the forms was done in 3D.
This is a non-traditional medium (skipping 2D) so I did a bunch of tweaking with post process effects to give it a more grainy textured paper/punchy colors/rendered look … minus the dabs of white gouache for highlights!
