Built using old parts and technology common to OBA vessels, but lovingly cared for and maintained by veteran spacers. Don't count this old hulk out so soon. Contains a centrifugal habitat ring, zero-gee industrial zones, a high-output nuclear reactor, and a spacecraft hangar. I started this as a fun little side project that I would work on when taking a break from my primary piece. For this project I wanted to try something new and different. My goal was to get more comfortable making strange shapes in Zbrush and also to become better at hand painting textures. A model for Astrokill, an indie game I’m teaming up with. This will be the slower-but-beefier fighter for the Outer Belt Alliance faction.
It features dorsal and ventral 30mm turrets, fixed 60mm autocannons, and a 120mm main gun. It can also carry up to six nuclear torpedoes to combat enemy installations, one of which is shown here just prior to main engine ignition. For defenses, it has thick hull plating typical to the OBA faction, partially shielded thermal management systems, and an enhanced inverse gravitic field generator which can be found under the starboard wing. This craft supports a standard crew of three, featuring a habitat section for extended mission endurance. A light industrial complex perched on a stoney asteroid somewhere. It has machinery for drilling and pulverizing the interior of the rock, extracting volatiles, and storing them in a geodesic sphere with a docking ring. Freighters stop by at regular intervals to retrieve the goods.
Alongside the refinery are the power, comm and radiator arrays, rising up into space like battle standards. Refineries of this type are often crewed by a small, tight-knit teams on six-month rotations, but in some regions the process may be completely automated and unmanned–save for occasional maintenance by freighter crews as they pass by.
