Olavskirken i Bamble, også kalt Skeidis kirke ble oppført på 1100-tallet. Den er viet til St. Olav med innvielsesdag 4. oktober. Kirken var trolig en hovedkirke i Grenland. Den var den største av de kjente steinkirkene. Erstattet av ny kirke 1845.
Nesten samtlige steinkirker i Telemark ble oppført på 1100-tallet og flere kan dateres til 1180-årene. Akkurat som middelalderkirkene ellers i landet, ble kirkene i Telemark oppført i en periode vi kaller borgerkrigstiden (1130–1240). Kirkene er også ganske like.
