Capstan in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
A capstan was used to hoist a cannon up the slopes of the walls of a fortress. Typically, a 24 pound cannon weights 3000 kg and at least 4 men were needed to get the cannon up the slope. The design of the capstan is taken from “Mémoires d’artillerie" by Surirey de Saint Remy, the French “lieutenant du Grand-Maître d’artillerie de France” and adapted for technical inconsistencies. The image below shows the use of such a capstan in the fortress of Lillo in 1640 (the virtual reconstruction is documented in this blog - in Dutch) - Capstan - 3D model by visualdimension 3D Model is ready to download for free

A musket is a long gun that appeared in the 16th century and was the most used defensive weapon in a fortress such as Fort Lillo. The walls of a West European fortress were designed for musket fire. During the 17th century, muskets used matchlock ignition (gunpowder was ignited by a slow-burning piece of cord). Only around 1700, they are replaced by flintlock muskets. A bandolier contained a small poach for bullets, several wooden tubes with the right amount of gunpowder and a metal flask with ignition powder. A soldier using a musket was called a musketeer.

Now reduced in price
Even though it was the advent of guns, in this era, the sword was still the major side weapon of most anyone with a reason to stay alive. This sword is a broadsword, which at the time became more and more rare. They can still be seen as the famous Scottish basket-hilt swords or the German Katzbalger often used by the Landsknechts. This Dutch sword however is very minimal in terms of a basket, even in decorations it’s not exessively lavish, of which can conclude this sword was likely owned by a common soldier or burgher.

Gunpowder barrels 3D Model.
Download Gunpowder barrels in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
Gunpowder was stored in barrels in a special gunpowder magazine. Just like wine, the barrels had to be turned regularly to avoid the gunpowder stuck together. When used in battle, only a few barrels would be transported to the gun batteries, and gunpowder would be transported to the guns in leather buckets, all for safety reasons, see volume 1 of the “Mémoires d’artillerie” by Surirey de Saint Remy (BnF).
The gunpowder magazine is also surrounded by water and by wooden posts, as additional security measures.
The barrels could also be turned into bombs by inserting a fuse in the top lid 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 285104 polygons.

Download Pikes in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
As it took a minimum of 30 seconds to about 1 minute to load a matchlock musket, the musketeer needed to be defended while loading his musket. In the new Dutch Republic in the 17th century, this was done by pikemen, using half-pikes (which had half of the length of normal pikes, which is 4 m). Also, scythes that were normally used to cut the grass on the earthen walls of the fortress, could be turned into pikes by turning the blade upright.

Front carriage 3D Model.
Download Front carriage in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
A cannon was made in such a way that it was nearly in balance around the wheel axis. This means that one man could lift a cannon and attach it to a horse-drawn front carriage to transport the cannon. As a 24-pound cannon weighs about 3000 kg, this works well on flat terrain. Getting the cannon up the walls was done with a capstan and a lot of man-power. Volume 3 of the Memores d’artillerie by Surirey de Saint-Remy describes it all in detail.

Harquebusiers Armour 3D Model.
Download Harquebusiers Armour in various files formats such as Wavefront Object format, Autodesk FBX, DirectX 9.0, Stereo Lithography and HTML5 JSON format.
The harquebusier was the most common form of cavalry found throughout Western Europe during the early to mid-17th century. Early harquebusiers were characterised by the use of a type of carbine called a “harquebus”. In England, harquebusier was the technical name for this type of cavalry, though in everyday usage they were usually simply called ‘cavalry’ or ‘horse’. In Germany they were often termed Ringerpferd, or sometimes Reiter, in Sweden they were called lätta ryttare.
The armour comprises a Pot Helmet with two-piece skull joined by a low-comb, neck-guard (Lobster tail) of simulated lames and pointed peak or visor with three-bar guard hinged at each side to allow it to be raised when not needed. At each side are the cheek pieces for protection, hinged by means of leather strips.
