The design of the capstan is taken from “Mémoires d’artillerie" by Surirey de Saint Remy, the French “lieutenant du Grand-Maître d’artillerie de France” and adapted for technical inconsistencies. The image below shows the use of such a capstan in the fortress of Lillo in 1640 (the virtual reconstruction is documented in this blog - in Dutch)
