starting out as a sketchfab mini comp, this has slowly become a bit of a project that I keep chipping away at and I think I’m finally ready to call this done :)
So presenting… my take on Hook and Smee from the childhood favourite ‘Peter Pan’ presented as a cocker spaniel and a pug, they did it for the musketeers so why not this.
I wanted this to be a personal piece that incorporates a lot of what I have learned with hand painted game assets over the last few years in my paid work, and while I know there are still plenty of areas to improve in, I am really happy with this, and hope others can enjoy it too. maybe I’ll find someone to animate them for me at some point :) - Pirate scene - Hook and Smee - 3D model by Damian Case (@damianc) 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 15445 polygons.

As it took a minimum of 30 seconds to about 1 minute to load a matchlock musket, the musketeer needed to be defended while loading his musket. In the new Dutch Republic in the 17th century, this was done by pikemen, using half-pikes (which had half of the length of normal pikes, which is 4 m). Also, scythes that were normally used to cut the grass on the earthen walls of the fortress, could be turned into pikes by turning the blade upright.

A musket is a long gun that appeared in the 16th century and was the most used defensive weapon in a fortress such as Fort Lillo. The walls of a West European fortress were designed for musket fire. During the 17th century, muskets used matchlock ignition (gunpowder was ignited by a slow-burning piece of cord). Only around 1700, they are replaced by flintlock muskets. A bandolier contained a small poach for bullets, several wooden tubes with the right amount of gunpowder and a metal flask with ignition powder. A soldier using a musket was called a musketeer.
