Although it appeared to be nothing more than a useless trinket, as the needle never pointed north, Jack’s compass had supernatural qualities, giving him a special edge. The compass couldn’t be used to navigate in a conventional sense, but it did direct the owner to whatever he or she wanted most at the moment.
