Foreign service pith helmet, worn during the Boer War. A Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry badge in red with white embroidered text ‘Cornwall' surmounted by a bugle. Belonging to Serjeant George, a Cornishman from Mylor, first served with 1st Battalion DCLI and saw action in the Tirah Campaign (1897/8, in modern day Pakistan). He moved to 2nd Battalion and served with them through the Boer War. This item originates from the collection at Bodmin Keep Musuem, Cornwall, UK. The model was created by Purpose3D. The ship’s approximate position remained known until the middle of the 19th century, but no serious attempts were made to salvage it. In 1956, the amateur researcher and engineer Anders Franzén, together with the diver Per Edvin Fälting, succeeded in re-establishing Vaasa’s exact position and after several years of marine archeological excavations and preparations, Vasa was lifted above the water surface on April 24, 1961.
Since 1990 the ship is included in a permanent exhibition in Stockholm.
