For the last model of the challenge, I have adapted and retouched one of the first scenes I did after studying and I have added an animation to include the topic as a lighting effect. Personally it has been a long and difficult year. Having joined the challenge has helped me handle it better. I hope next year will be better. The summer months were the most difficult to do but I am satisfied with the overall result. Next year I plan to spend the time learning Blender and Unreal 5 so I don't think I'll do the Weekly again. The AI is going to change everything, so things will have to be rethought. I’m proud to finally present a project I’ve been working on since 2015: A diorama scene depicting the Battle of Hoth from “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back”.
My ultimate goal was to present drama and emotion through percieved detail while limiting my polycount as much as possible; Putting weight and motion into each hand-posed character to mimic the feeling one might get looking at a table with wargaming miniatures.
The concept was partially inspired by the Halo 3 “Believe” ad series.
Workflow:
No external textures were used, only vertex color painting and some baking for PBR compatability and reduced file size.
Done 100% in Blender3D.
What I Learned in the Process:
Getting to extensively use vertex painting was one of the most fun aspects of this project. I also gained a lot of experience in basic character modelling, and until now, I had never used Blender’s rigging system.
I gained so much more confidence in Cycles materials, and particle effects as well.
