‘Speed’ (1920s) is one of Antonio Sciortino’s equine sculptures but it aims to express an abstract concept, that of speed. The horses seem to blend into one another as they race forward and are reduced to little more than horizontal lines. The stylisation of the sculpture betrays an Art Deco influence, but the concept and the use of lines to depict movement look towards Futurism. The lines are the gushes of displaced air caused by the forward projectile movement of the horses. Only the horses’ heads with flaring nostrils and their front legs remind us that this is a figurative work. A drivable go-kart vehicle made specifically for the Source game Garrysmod! Available as a Workshop addon, and fully functional! Ingame, it is fully animated and has a colour mask, so it can be tinted to any colour. It also comes with a Bodygroup of a Glider, that will be utilized in an upcoming Kart racing gamemode. This model was Commissioned for a Gmod gamemode that will be released in the future! By importing a default gmod character model, and applying the “driving” animation, i was possible to model the vehicle directly to fit the player models, allowing it to work surprisingly well with the default animations. The seating position was modified by tilting it backwards by about 12 degrees, allowing an overall lower profile, a little hack I was very glad to see working! Somewhat unrealistic for a kart to have full suspension, but was needed to fit the Source vehicle animations. And yes, it’s electric! Pre-Columbian Maya bat god sculpture curated in the Museo Popol Vuh in Guatemala City- Catalogue no. 2005-0032. This sculpture dates to the Late Preclassic and could likely originates from the Copan area of Honduras, bordering Guatemala. The monument is tenoned and could have been used as ornamentation on a structure. The glyphic text on the head and back of the piece relate to the monument’s dedication and ownership. Bats were an important motif depicted in Maya art and glyphic text, and depending on the context, possibly represented a harbinger of death, sacrifice, or the underworld, and often shown representing a particular cultural group.
