This is a 3D model is from a laser scanning survey of the remains of a slave house chimney (Chimney 3) from the Stafford Plantation on Cumberland Island National Seashore. The Chimneys are a series of 26 hearth and brick remains in three parallel rows that are found nearby the main Stafford plantation house. The site is undergoing restoration treatments and our 3D survey was performed prior to that work, digitally documenting and preserving the site for archival purposes. Our 3D work is additionally assistive with preservation planning and supportive of management needs, and can be utilized for structural repair documentation, monitoring, and condition assessment. Using these models, 3D prints can also be made to examine construction techniques in tactile ways. This was my summer project before starting second year at DMU Game Art, although due to some module mix up, I spent about 3 weeks revisiting it on and off. The brief was to make a 10m x 10m realistic-style castaway island, using substance painter to texture. I originally planned to do a pirate-themed island and made extra props, but realised that they just didn’t work at all with the scene. Instead I’ve kept it very basic and natural.
