The Grunwald Monument is an equestrian statue of King of Poland Władysław II Jagiełło (1352–1434) located at Matejko Square in Krakow’s Old Town and constructed in 1910 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald (1410). It was designed by Polish sculptor Antoni Wiwulski and Franciszek Black and funded by renowned pianist and future Prime Minister of Poland, Ignacy Jan Paderewski. The monument was destroyed in 1939 by Nazi Germans and reconstructed in 1976 according to project by Marian Konieczny. This was created as part of Ashleigh Warners’ ‘Creating Stylized Game Assets’ course available through CGMA. I completed my first draft last November, but I went back over it and made as many changes as possible to get it to a place I felt confident in sharing. This is MEEPO, or the Mega Express Espresso Processing Operator 3000. The initial idea was to have this retro-futuristic coffee-station diorama that sold a particular kind of mundane story (even if it was in a sort of space-setting). Either way, this is my first fully-completed hand-painted project and I couldn’t be happier! It was created through a mix of Blender, 3Ds Max, 3D Coat, Substance Painter and Photoshop! I thought of this idea because I wanted to take something that exists in real life and turn it into something that might live in the World of Warcraft, and I knew the Tuskarr would be a fun culture to delve into. Since they’re based on Walruses I came up with the Milk Delivery Sledge for transporting their milk across the icy places of Northrend and the Dragon Isles. I tried to make everything fit in with the Tuskarr aesthetic and had a lot of fun with it.
