This house was an experiment for me in tileable materials and seeing how far I could get using nothing but Photoshop for texture creation instead of my usual go to, Substance Painter. Most of these materials started out with a diffuse texture I either photographed myself or found on CGtextures.com. I then created the normal, spec, emmisive, etc in Photoshop. I think this technique works well if you’re going to be putting the model into an engine like Unity or Unreal. The textures hold up at very close and they can be used across many different buildings or props you may have in your game. Also being able to add secondary textures would allow for more variations like grunge. It was quite a challenge to make this scene in less than a week while working a full-time job. Despite having to go to bed way too late every night, in order to finish it by the end of the week, I feel pretty good about the work I’ve done. Some might say it’s an interesting color choice for a guitar amp, and I would agree. To be honest it was a complete accident. I was experimenting with different finishes when stumbled upon a deep blue plastic material in my library which later became the base for material that made it to the render stage. The original idea was to make it orange as they usually are, but every time I compared the two my heart leaned more and more towards the blue one. Se here we are. Blue Orange amp.
