This is a recent project of mine, an attempt to take some old pre-college concept drawings and make something out of them. Ultimately it was an excuse to freehand paint a lot of filigree detail in a couple different styles (one style for the steel parts, another for the wood/pommel). Painting filigree is incredibly satisfying! All the geometry and baking was done in Blender, and the first pass of materials also, then I moved over to Substance Painter for the detailing. As for the sword itself, the profile is based on a German Landsknecht zweihänder, but with an even longer grip, taking it almost into the polearm realm.
