This little bird nursery was a project to further push my understanding and skills of the handpainted game art pipeline, from concept to having a finished model. In this case, I also wanted to explore how to blend different terrain textures into each other, and how to generate grass with a particle system instead of placing them all by hand like in my previous props. I’m happy it worked the way it did! In order to get this on Sketchfab I even got some additional practice: Baking said ground textures onto the ground plane, and converting my grass particles into actual geometry. Merging those then ended up making my file twice the size - but “compressing” it brought it down again. Lots of mini-roadblocks, but here it is! The “Volkssturmgewehr” is an old late-war German Assault Rifle from World War 2. It utilized a special gas-delayed blowback system which allowed for semi-automatic fire. It was created in the “Primitiv-Waffen-Programm” to save important resources for the war and was build from already existing components. The weapon was able to chamber MP43/StG 44 magazines and used therefore 7.92x33mm munition. She lost everything but the lights were always on, hoping that someone would spot them on the distance.” Hand painted scene I did for my Game Graphics final exam in Digital Arts and Entertainment. For the concept I based myself on the abandon military and scientific bases of Deception Island (Antartica), including the old whale oil refinery factories. While searching for some reference, I fell in love with the colors and mood that some of the pictures depicted from these places . They are completly abandoned and destroyed, but their surroundings seemed so quiet, pure and constant in time that made these houses feel like the only reserves of life in the place, even though they were forgotten long time ago. I didn’t use any purchased assets for this, so everything is modeled by me. Shaders were almost all procedural originally. I baked them into bitmap textures with Arnold.
