Iā€™m proud to finally present a project Iā€™ve been working on since 2015: A diorama scene depicting the Battle of Hoth from “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back”. My ultimate goal was to present drama and emotion through percieved detail while limiting my polycount as much as possible; Putting weight and motion into each hand-posed character to mimic the feeling one might get looking at a table with wargaming miniatures. The concept was partially inspired by the Halo 3 ā€œBelieveā€ ad series. Workflow: No external textures were used, only vertex color painting and some baking for PBR compatability and reduced file size. Done 100% in Blender3D. What I Learned in the Process: Getting to extensively use vertex painting was one of the most fun aspects of this project. I also gained a lot of experience in basic character modelling, and until now, I had never used Blender’s rigging system. I gained so much more confidence in Cycles materials, and particle effects as well. Load the HD Textures, please! :) This is a fan art diorama I did for studding purposes. I’ve been working on this during my little free time for the past 2-3 months and learnt a lot in the process. I’ve always loved how Nintendo can make some of the best art out there with so little. Modeling and texturing the characters (Pikmin and Alph) was a really really great study!! The other objects on the scene were also really fun to do and helped me to better understand how PBR materials work! I modeled and textured the Pikmin based on images on the internet only, but for Alph I had to use the original model of the game as reference. No parts of the original model or textures were used on my own model, but without the 3D reference for topology and textures, in the lack of a “blueprint”, I wouldn’t be able to make it look as identical. Everything was modeled in Blender and textured in Photoshop, the Normal and AO maps were all baked in Blender, as well. This is the final version of my first 3D assignment for Howest DAE. I had a lot of fun working on it, especially the texturing, as we were now allowed to use anything like substance painter, marmoset etc. Everything had to either be done in photoshop or maya and we could pretty much only use an albedo and some transparency. It was a challange to get the textures looking good without any roughness or normals, but I think I learned a lot from it.
