I went on a completely different direction from my first project (treasure chest) going from a some what realistic hand painted to the most stylized texture I could do. I decided to do cell shading for this one, although cell shading material doesn’t export to sketchfab I decided to duplicate every object and flip it’s polygons to give a similar ilusion, ence the diorama having the double of the budget tri on sketchfab. The only building outside of Leningrad, the dormitory of the Krasny Oktyabr factory in Vitebsk, was built in 1979. The Belarusian building is distinguished by the number of floors (18) and facade finishing. Among the people, the house received the nicknames “Glassful”, “Corn”, “Barrel”.
Due to the strange layout, there was a tale circulating around Leningrad that these buildings were masking missile silos hidden inside. On January 18th 1935, Clark Hopkins, the field director at Dura-Europos, found three painted shields stacked on top of each other during an excavation. The shields, which date back to shortly before AD 256 and which were abandoned when Dura-Europos was sacked by the Sassanians, were in good condition with much of the painting still visible.
The ancient shield has been beautifully restored in digital 3D using available data from the Yale University Art Gallery and Herbert J. Gute’s watercolor painting, “Wooden Shield Painted with Scenes from the Trojan War”. This modern building was created with the need for modern building to be set up in Unreal Engine (or any game engine). However, it can easily be used for an Arch Viz scene or animation.
It was built to be versatile, so can be used as a art gallery, office, museum or modern home etc…
Many of the Arch Viz style buildings (free or paid for) you can download online are made with sketchup or Revit, these are excellent tools, but when the models are exported they can be split into hundreds or thousands of pieces which is not always practical for a game engine. And whilst they can be joined together again, I created this modern building that is low poly and easy to set up in a games engine.
