This one is from a project I'm making (30 days of poly) This actually took a while I tried different robots, I tried instead of having the firefly maybe a paper boat or a ballet dancer in a glass container, or some kind of plant. Finally decided that the firefly works best. And the environment OH GOD !! I changed it like 4 times. I hate not being able to make a quick decision when it comes to this kind of scenes. I know the scene is a bit too dark, I thought of making it a night scene at first and I tried lighting it up really good, but at the end I decided to just make it something in between 3D Model is ready to download for free

With this study I had one major goal - examine how base color works with light while trying to stay to the color scheme of the original illustration as close as possible. In order to do this I found myself referring to the birch a lot - its white color helped me figure out light and shadow hue and value relation between all the elements of the illustration.
I didn’t use textures (except for the alpha cards for the grass and moss) so I could change colors quickly.
I also learned some new tricks, like using Data Transfer modifier in Blender in order to adjust normals of the moss grass to the moss itself so it would blend perfectly (more obvious in the Matcap view). In order for both sides to look good, I duplicated the mesh and flipped normals, while making them both single sided. I didn’t do it for the grass because I thought it looked better with default normals in this case 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 36877 polygons.
