Introduced into Egypt by the Hyksos in the sixteenth century B.C., the chariot was throughout the New Kingdom closely associated with the king, who is constantly shown dominating the field of battle, the reins around his waist, firing his bow. Chariots begin to appear in Egyptian wall reliefs and paintings from the early 18th dynasty, and are mentioned as diplomatic gifts in the correspondence from el-Amarna. A small ancient Egyptian cat head made of a copper alloy from the collection of Bolton Library and Museum Services. The head is unprovenanced, but these objects are particularly well-attested at the sites of Bubastis and Saqqara. In ancient Egypt, the cat was associated with the goddess Bastet, and many objects like this were created to be given in offering at temples and necropoli.
This cat head features pierced ears and finely detailed eyes which may have held some form of inlay.

Upper portion of a limestone statue of Thutmose III from Deir el-Bahri displayed in the Cairo Museum. The torso of the statue without the face was found in the early 20th century and now is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The face was found during excavations at Deir el-Bahri by the Polish Expedition in the 1960s and is in the Cairo Museum collections. Casts were made of each poriton of the statue and exchanged between the institutions. Today the original face and cast of the torso can be seen in Cairo and the original torso and cast of the face can be seen in New York.
Created from 113 images (Canon EOS Rebel T7i) using Metashape 1.7.5. Access to the back of the statue was difficult and repairs to the reconstructed mesh were made in Blender 2.92.

Taharqa Gate Conservation
The Taharqa Gate is situated in what would have been the northern mudbrick enclosure wall of the Small Amun Temple at Medinet Habu.
In the aftermath of the destruction of the Temple Area and walls of Ramses III at Medinet Habu, the Ethiopian Kings of the 25th dynasty undertook reconstruction efforts, rebuilding a mudbrick wall encircling the small temple upon the foundations of a wall of the same dimensions erected by Hatshepsut.
With these massive mudbrick enclosure walls all but weathered away, the gate now appears as a free standing structure. However, the lack of surrounding mudbrick structural support it had when built, combined with 2000 years of erosion have left the gate in need of urgent attention.

At some point near the end of the 20th Dynasty, a turbulent time of civil war in ancient Egypt, the temple precinct of Medinet Habu was invaded. At this time several large blocks from the upper courses of the Western High Gate were intentionally toppled and subsequently buried under rubble and debris. Apparently forgotten when the gate was later dismantled and its stone recycled, the blocks in this section and Section 20 were discovered during Hölscher’s initial survey.
