Vasa was a Swedish warship that capsized and sank off Beckholmen in Stockholm’s inlet on its maiden voyage, August 10, 1628. After some early unsuccessful attempts to rescue her in the 17th century, Vaasa was largely forgotten.

The head is unprovenanced, but these objects are particularly well-attested at the sites of Bubastis and Saqqara.
