3D scan of a fossilized primitive bird, the extinct Confuciusornis sanctus dated 125 million years ago and found in the Liaoning province, China. The lagerstätte in China is an El Dorado for paleontologists and evolutionary biologists: more than 1000 specimens of Confuciusornis were found there. These findings provide valuable information on the evolution of birds. Confuciusornis sanctus is Number 21 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 8 of the NHM Vienna. Old wooden cart from Georgia. In the Caucasus, such carts are called arba (araba in turkish-speaking countries). We found this arba while walking in Mtatsminda park in Tbilisi with @sv.stats who had noticed it. It was in the evening, so it got dark quickly and the shooting conditions were not very good but I decided to scan it anyway cause it was our last weekend in Tbilisi and there would have been no other opportunity.
Captured in november 2022.

Made with a remote dataset with many blurry and not sharp photos.
Creation process was focused on reducing the blur and sharpness using deep learning models to improve quality on the source images.
The same process was applied to the final resulting texture of the model to increase even more the sharpness of it.
A model of a head of (possibly) Rameses II. This is made of red granite and dates to around 1250 BC.

Cooperation with our friends at G-3D-PrintThe front cover of the jetski was scanned using Artec Leo in 15 minutes (including chalc sraying, markers, etc.) and the post-process workflow took about 60 minutes in Artec Studio. The jetski belongs to the world champion György Kasza and his team. The purpose of the scan is to make a perfect fit bespoke fabricated composite cover, therefore some reverse engineering was necessary to get a native CAD data (step) to be able to machine the mold for the composite. For this, weve sed Quicksurface’s Autosurface option to get the nurbs surface based on the HQ mesh. 3D scan of a skull and mandible of the mosasaurid Platecarpus coryphaeus. He was an aquatic predator during the late Cretaceous, living about 81–85 million years ago. Mosasaurids are members of the order Squamata and are therefore relatives of lizards and snakes. Fossils of Platecarpus are found predominantly in North America, but were perhaps also occurring in Europe, Africa & New Zealand.
This skull of Platecarpus coryphaeus will be on display in the upcoming exhibition “CineSaurs” that opens on October 19, 2021 at the NHM Vienna.

3D scan of an Arrau turtle (Podocnemis expansa). This specimen is an example for early taxidermy. This turtle was caught in 1832 on the banks of the Rio Solimões during an Austrian expedition in Brazil. It came to the NHM Vienna in 1834 and is one of a few found specimens of this rare species. Arrau turtles live in the wetland areas of South America and are among the largest freshwater turtles in the world.
The Arrau turtle is Number 73 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 28 of the NHM Vienna.

Thanks to successful breeding programs, they can frequently be seen in zoos, but they are rarer in museums. This female snow leopard died in the Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna in 1943 and was mounted at the NHM Vienna.
The snow leopard is Number 95 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 38 of the NHM Vienna.

A small ancient Egyptian cat head made of a copper alloy from the collection of Bolton Library and Museum Services. The head is unprovenanced, but these objects are particularly well-attested at the sites of Bubastis and Saqqara. In ancient Egypt, the cat was associated with the goddess Bastet, and many objects like this were created to be given in offering at temples and necropoli.
