A new version of this model has been uploaded with a more accurate texture. Surface scan of a Galapagos giant tortoise from the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum at the University of Dundee. Chelonoidis nigra (originally catalogued as Testudo elephantopus) - Galapagos Giant Tortoise. Length = 82cm. Scanned with an Artec Eva surface scanner. The western lantern tortoise is actually fairly well camouflaged during the whole year, except for the autumn months, when it has to actively look for as much food as possible to survive hibernation during the cold winter months. Forfeiting camouflage strategy, it uses bioluminescent cells in it’s skin and the thinner parts of it’s shell to scare away predators with a haunting, glowing face on it’s back that resembles a far larger creature. Because of it’s appearance, and it’s active behaviour during the halloween season, it’s often mistaken for a large pumpkin in the dark, hence it’s name.

Cooperation with our friends at G-3D-PrintThe front cover of the jetski was scanned using Artec Leo in 15 minutes (including chalc sraying, markers, etc.) and the post-process workflow took about 60 minutes in Artec Studio. The jetski belongs to the world champion György Kasza and his team. The purpose of the scan is to make a perfect fit bespoke fabricated composite cover, therefore some reverse engineering was necessary to get a native CAD data (step) to be able to machine the mold for the composite. For this, weve sed Quicksurface’s Autosurface option to get the nurbs surface based on the HQ mesh. 3D scan of a trumpeter swan (Cygnus buccinator), which is the largest native water bird in Northern America and has been widespread there. These birds are around 1.5 meters long, with a wingspan of more than 2 meters. Trumpeter swans got their vernacular name due to their trumpet-like calls. This also reflects the scientific species name derived from “buccinare” – to trumpet.
The exhibited specimen originates from the Tiergarten Nürnberg and came to the NHM Vienna in 1978.
This trumpeter swan can be found in Hall 30 of the Natural History Museum Vienna.

The southern elephant seal is Number 86 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 34 of the NHM Vienna next to Steller’s sea cow.

Upper portion of a limestone statue of Thutmose III from Deir el-Bahri displayed in the Cairo Museum. The torso of the statue without the face was found in the early 20th century and now is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The face was found during excavations at Deir el-Bahri by the Polish Expedition in the 1960s and is in the Cairo Museum collections. Casts were made of each poriton of the statue and exchanged between the institutions. Today the original face and cast of the torso can be seen in Cairo and the original torso and cast of the face can be seen in New York.
Created from 113 images (Canon EOS Rebel T7i) using Metashape 1.7.5. Access to the back of the statue was difficult and repairs to the reconstructed mesh were made in Blender 2.92.

The archaeological site of Chavín de Huántar sits at an elevation of 3,177m (10,425ft) above sea level in the Peruvian Andes and is located at the confluence of the Mosna and Wacheksa rivers. Chavín once intersected several major trade routes through the Cordillera Blanca mountain range, a strategic location for the capital of the Chavín civilization. The site is located near the Callejón de Huáyla Valley where the village of Chavín de Huántar is located. Chavín is now served by a recently-upgraded, asphalt roadway. Covering 12,000 sq m (129,167 sq ft), the site includes massive temple structures with significant interior and subterranean space, pyramidal platforms, courts, and sunken plaza spaces, most of which are aligned on a common axis. Over time, river floods have eroded much of this stone architecture; its mountainous location has also made it susceptible to destructive landslides.
