Vasa was a Swedish warship that capsized and sank off Beckholmen in Stockholm’s inlet on its maiden voyage, August 10, 1628. After some early unsuccessful attempts to rescue her in the 17th century, Vaasa was largely forgotten.
The ship’s approximate position remained known until the middle of the 19th century, but no serious attempts were made to salvage it. In 1956, the amateur researcher and engineer Anders Franzén, together with the diver Per Edvin Fälting, succeeded in re-establishing Vaasa’s exact position and after several years of marine archeological excavations and preparations, Vasa was lifted above the water surface on April 24, 1961.
Since 1990 the ship is included in a permanent exhibition in Stockholm. None of it is meant to hold up in closeups, but it looks great from afar. The whole thing is ~5.5k tris, so if you want a hangar full or a fleet of them, it won’t slow down your scene. Perfect for all your imperial needs!
PBR textures made in Substance Painter. The exterior is 2k, the interior is 1k, the pilot is 512x512.
Cutting in the windows a couple years after the outside model was done made for some very messy topology around them, but the overall ship is still low poly enough, and no one will notice. The glass is also currently single-sided, just to be more performant than trying to have glass with thickness and refraction.
