I created this model based on references from the actual movie props and some amazingly faithful replicas.
The geometry is relatively light weight for use in game engines. The counter animation is geometry based, so it can be used dynamically and adressed by code.
Complete with 4K PBR textures.
My motivation for this piece came from rewatching the Aliens movies. I took this as an opportunity to learn Substance Painter and figure out how to bake maps for a more complex model like this.
It’s also always interesting to learn a few things about design in general and about the object you’re researching in specific.
When researching references it helped me to find out that parts of this design are based on real life rifles like the “M1A1 Thompson” and the “Spas 12” shotgun 3D Model is ready to download for free, this model contains 7959 polygons.

A low poly model of the stormtrooper blaster, mostly based on A New Hope rather than Battlefront’s RotJ version, textured in Substance Painter. Not detailed enough for a 1st person view, but great for full body distance! I’d price it lower but sketchfab’s minimum is $3.99- I’ll bundle it into my upcoming stormtrooper if you want both.
The RotJ version’s biggest difference is the different barrel grip design and no techy pieces attached to the left side. ANH also has a lot of variation, partly because those techy pieces fell off some of the props, partly because they just used mismatched parts in general.
Aside from being slightly simplified (eg. I have a smooth wire instead of 2 curly wires to save on polycount, there is no trigger to avoid clipping—although many screen-used ones in ANH also have no trigger!), I also made a conscious change to add back in the one missing grip from the left side of the barrel in ANH where there was a bayonet attachment and a row of holes instead. It has already a good skeleton. You can use it in blender, cinema4d or in other programs.
